There Are Enough People. There Are Not Enough Hands.

Plenty to get through.
Making the kitchen and vanity doors.
Fighting with turquoise blue.
Blue lets the ground show through… I should have laid down white first.
Three coats and it is still see-through…
I got the kitchen doors finished somehow, but ran out of paint before I reached the living room doors..
Order more paint. Out of stock.
Tight spot…

Plenty to get through.
Finishing the purple heart slab table going into the house of a real estate company president here in Kitami, Hokkaido.
I let the emoie crew take it as far as the rough planing, but a table this expensive is not something I can hand over for the finish.
Filling the end grain cracks with resin, working the surface, and purple heart is weak in the sun, ultraviolet bleaches the purple out.
So I brush on a sunscreen coating.

Getting old, and the workload is past capacity.
Being alone is hard. But if the alternative is ganging up with someone, alone is better.
Groundwork for the imitation white birch fence.
Welding steel pipe on site… the welding mask was not working right, and the next day I could not open my eyes.
The reel is past 55,000 views…
Well, fine then.

Far too much to do.
Nobody to blame. I took the job, so it is on me.
Design, site supervision, scheduling, material orders, the books including payments, meetings with the client (though I mostly built it my own way (ha)), hauling the site waste, helping the framing carpenters, termite treatment, making the doors, making the kitchen and vanity and shelving, the landscaping, and now and then this diary…
Ten years ago this would have been easy. Back then I was off at races, and flying to Tokyo to buy shop stock once every three months.
64 years old… this last house might be the one that finishes me. (ha)
But compared with us old men, today’s salary-slackers put everything they have into two things, dodging work and looking busy when the boss is watching. A lot of them bring in nothing, and I watch it in disbelief.
What is serious is that they have no idea they are slacking, and they believe nobody can tell.
That is the era we are in.
The labor shortage is not a shortage of people. It is a shortage of people who can do the work.
Collecting duds solves nothing.
More people just means more squabbles and more work to do.
Hand it to the AI and cut the payroll. (ha)
